Paint Protection

Paint protection in Geelong.

PPF and ceramic coating solve different problems. This page explains what each one does, when to use each, and which combination makes sense for your vehicle and how you use it.

Understanding Protection

Not all paint protection is the same.

“Paint protection” is used as a catch-all term that covers products ranging from cheap wax to multi-thousand-dollar film installations. The distinction matters because they protect against entirely different things.

Paint Protection Film (PPF) is a physical barrier, a thick urethane film that stops stone chips and road debris from reaching the paint. Ceramic coating is a chemical barrier, a molecular bond that resists contamination, UV degradation, and light surface marring.

Many vehicles benefit from both, applied in the correct order: paint correction first, then PPF on high-impact areas, then ceramic coating over the full vehicle.

PPF vs Ceramic Coating

Side by side

Paint Protection FilmCeramic Coating
What it protects againstStone chips, road debris, scratches, and physical impact damageUV, chemical contamination, bird droppings, water spots, and light marring
How it worksThick urethane film absorbs physical impact energy before it reaches the paintMolecular bond to clear coat creates a chemically resistant, hydrophobic layer
VisibilityNear-invisible when installed correctly, factory finish preservedCompletely invisible, adds gloss depth and water-beading behaviour
Longevity8 to 12 years depending on coverage and exposure3 to 10 years depending on product tier and maintenance
Best forHighway driving, gravel roads, new vehicles, high-impact areas like bonnets and bumpersAll vehicles as a base protection layer, often combined with PPF
