Exterior
Exterior Detailing Geelong.
A proper exterior detail: decontamination, refinement, and protection. Not just a wash.
Why it matters
The exterior your vehicle is supposed to have, not what it settled for.
Exterior detailing is the systematic process of removing everything that does not belong on your paint: bonded fallout, road grime, tree sap, industrial contamination, and oxidation. Then we refine and protect the surface. It is not a car wash. It is the correct way to maintain a vehicle between correction and coating visits, and the right way to prepare a car for sale or an event.
What exterior detailing is and where it ends
An exterior detail starts with a proper decontamination wash: foam pre-soak to loosen surface contamination, hand wash using the two-bucket method, iron fallout remover to dissolve bonded metallic particles, and clay bar to lift remaining bonded contamination. After decontamination, the paint is in the cleanest state it can be in before polishing.
A machine polish is then applied to refine the surface. This is an enhancement, not a correction. Enhancement removes very light surface haze and brings back gloss and clarity. It is not the same as paint correction, which addresses deeper swirl marks, scratches, and oxidation across multiple passes. If your paint has significant defects, exterior detailing is the right place to start the conversation, but paint correction is the right service.
The detail finishes with a protection layer (sealant or wax) applied to the clean, polished surface. This provides a hydrophobic barrier that makes subsequent maintenance easier and slows contamination bonding.
Exterior detailing is the correct maintenance service for vehicles that already have ceramic coating, paint correction, or PPF. It keeps those surfaces performing correctly. It is also the right preparation for a vehicle heading to paint correction or coating.
Geelong's coastal location and Australian summer conditions accelerate surface contamination. Iron fallout from rail corridors and salt from Port Phillip Bay bond to paint faster here than in many inland cities.

Drag to compare
When exterior detailing makes sense
Exterior detailing is the right service if:
- Your vehicle looks dull, flat, or contaminated despite regular washing
- You have a ceramic coating or paint sealant that needs correct maintenance
- You are preparing the vehicle for private sale and want maximum exterior presentation
- Your paint has light surface haze from UV exposure or sub-standard washing
- You want decontamination before applying a paint sealant or wax
- It has been 6 to 12 months since the last professional exterior treatment
- You have been using an automatic car wash and are concerned about wash-induced damage
What exterior detailing delivers
Decontamination
Iron fallout, bonded road grime, and industrial contamination are removed from the paint, not just obscured. This is what a standard wash cannot do, and what allows polish and protection to work correctly.
Restored gloss and clarity
Machine enhancement removes the light surface haze that accumulates between correction visits and gives paint a clean, sharp reflection. Not the same depth as full correction, but a genuine, honest improvement.
Protection barrier
A sealant or wax layer over clean, polished paint repels water, slows contamination bonding, and makes the vehicle easier to maintain in the weeks and months following the detail.
Glass and trim
Exterior glass is polished for clarity. Rubber and plastic trim is cleaned and protected. The whole exterior is treated, not just the panels.
Maintenance for existing protection
Ceramic-coated vehicles require correct maintenance to keep the coating performing. Exterior detailing with appropriate ceramic-safe products is the right way to service a coated car.
Pre-sale presentation
A properly detailed exterior signals maintenance standard to buyers. The return on a $200 to $350 exterior detail at point of sale routinely exceeds the cost in private sale negotiations.
Our exterior detail process
Every exterior detail follows the same sequence: decontaminate before polish, polish before protect. Skipping steps produces a result that looks good briefly and performs poorly.
- 01
Foam pre-soak and rinse
Snow foam applied to the full exterior to dwell and loosen surface contamination before any contact. Rinsed thoroughly before hand wash begins.
- 02
Two-bucket hand wash
Full exterior washed by hand using a wash mitt and two-bucket method: one bucket wash solution, one rinse. This prevents contamination being dragged across panels. Wheels and arches cleaned separately.
- 03
Iron fallout decontamination
Iron remover applied to all painted surfaces and wheels. Bonded metallic particles from brake dust and industrial fallout are dissolved rather than abraded off.
- 04
Clay bar treatment
Fine detailing clay passed across the paint surface to lift any remaining bonded contamination that washing and iron remover could not address. The result is a smooth, clean surface ready for polish.
- 05
Machine enhancement polish
Single-stage machine polish applied across all painted panels to remove light surface haze and restore gloss. This is enhancement, not correction. Significant defects require a separate paint correction service.
- 06
Protection application
Paint sealant or wax applied to all polished panels. Exterior glass polished. Rubber and plastic trim cleaned and dressed. Full exterior inspection before handover.
