What It Is
Permanent correction, not a temporary fix.
Paint correction is the process of removing clear coat defects, swirl marks, fine scratches, water etching, and oxidation, by machine polishing. The clear coat is the outermost layer of your paint system; correction removes a controlled amount of that layer to level the surface below the defect.
The result is permanent. Unlike glaze, filler wax, or spray detailers that mask defects temporarily, machine polishing actually removes them. The improvement holds through washing, rain, and normal use.
Paint correction is also the essential step before ceramic coating. Coating a car with swirl marks locks those marks in permanently, which is why we inspect every vehicle before recommending any protection product.
Correction Stages
What stage does your vehicle need?
Enhancement Polish
A single light polishing stage to improve gloss and clarity. Removes light swirl marks and minor surface haze. Suitable for vehicles in good condition that need refinement before protection.
Single-Stage Correction
One polishing stage targeting moderate swirl marks, fine scratches, and oxidation. Significant improvement in clarity and depth, correct preparation before ceramic coating.
Two-Stage Correction
A cutting stage followed by a refining stage. Removes heavy swirl marks, deep scratches, and oxidation. Required for vehicles with significant paint defects or years of accumulated damage.
Multi-Stage Correction
Three or more stages for paint in poor condition. Full defect removal with maximum clarity restoration. Used on vehicles with severe damage, neglected paint, or preparation for show-level coating.
The correct stage is determined by vehicle inspection under controlled lighting, not by price point. We'll tell you exactly what's needed and why.
Common Questions
Paint correction, FAQ
- Is paint correction the same as a polish?
- A polish is a product, paint correction is a process. Professional paint correction uses machine polishing with specifically selected compounds and pads to permanently remove clear coat defects. It does not wash off. A hand polish or detailer spray improves gloss temporarily but does not correct defects.
- Will my car need paint correction before ceramic coating?
- In most cases, yes. Ceramic coating locks in whatever condition the paint is in, swirl marks become permanent once sealed. We inspect every vehicle under controlled lighting before recommending correction stages.
- How do I know if my paint has swirl marks?
- Look at your vehicle's paint in direct sunlight or under a strong light source. Circular or web-like scratches across panels, especially on dark-coloured vehicles, are swirl marks. They are caused by incorrect washing technique and worsen over time.
- Where is your studio?
- We're at Unit 5/53 Douro Street, North Geelong VIC 3215. Paint correction is performed in a controlled, indoor environment, results from a proper studio outperform mobile services on this type of work.
